Mexican Culture and Football
Last night we went to a concert in Guayabitos. It was sponsored in part by the federal gov't to showcase Mexican Culture . The first part was a string orchestra which played some classics and Mexican music. They started off with Hungarian Gypsy Music ! They were very good and played for about an hour. The plaza held over 400 people under the stars. It was very enjoyable.
Then a semi-famous singer in a red outfit sang. He was ok , but stayed too long.
After he got the hook, a dance troupe came on with traditional dances and outfits. They were very good. But it made for a late night.

Today we hung out at home , then made the trek down the hill to see the Super Bowl. An American bar, Hindy y Jaime , had the game on but they had been sold out for weeks. We could have watched from the street,

but that would have sucked big time. So we went for a short walk on the beach, then stopped at a new restaurant downtown, Tonita III. There were only a few people there , so we planned on staying for a few cold ones and the half-time show. The game was so good, that we stayed till the end and had a great meal as well. Congratulations to the Giants. I was one of the few cheering for them , so it was a happy ending.
Sounds like you guys are having a great experience down there. We are heading to Cancun next Friday - can't wait! Marcus just left for Las Vegas to play in the international 7s rugby tournament down there (Jody goes down tomorrow), and Payton and I were in San Antonio in January when he played for Team Canada in the Youth All-American Bowl. I don't know how we are paying for all of this! At least the Mexico trip was paid for months ago.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if you heard but Ron is calling it quits on coaching so I am taking the HC role. The rest of the coaches will be back, so that is good...now if we could just find some players (especially ones with size!). We have started circuit workouts twice a week that have been well-attended; now we just need to get the guys into the weight room (a tough sell).
The second semester is going well. All four of my classes are nice - can't really think of any kids that I would want to get rid of. Construction is still an ongoing annoyance, and a lot of people (including me) have been sick more often this year. They keep telling us that the air is safe, so I guess the problem must be in our heads...
Keep lovin' life, Coach!
Congrats on the HC Ryan. I'll stop by in April when I'm back.
