Big Weekend

Just came back from Arte funktional 2012 at the Vernon Performing Art Center.  There was a great opening held Thursday night and the show is well run with some wonderful art. Helene has some beautiful ceramic  bowls that she created especially for the show. They are gorgeous !

These are 3 of her pieces. My pictures don't do justice to them . You really have to see them to experience how great they are . The show runs until 4 PM on Sunday.

Here are some of the pieces I have in the show.
This Box Elder Burl  open form garnered a lot of comments I'm pretty happy with this one.

This Box Elder vase is very colorful

Those of you that know me as a coach and educator must find this a bit hard to comprehend. I owe a lot of the credit to Helene who has encouraged my creativity. Who knows what we are capable of unless we actually try?

It's Fall !

Yes it is ! The leaves are changing and the days are shorter ! Football is nearing the playoffs in Canada and the MBL is in the league finals. I've been pretty busy getting ready for a show with Helene and Alex that is next week, called Arte funktional 2012. It is at the Marie Fleming Room in the Vernon Performing Arts Centre Oct 25th to Oct 28th . Its an exhibition dedicated to the promotion and sale of art & functional art, showcasing Okanagan artists specializing in three-dimensional contemporary artwork such as : ceramic, textile, metal, jewellery, wearable art, glass, wood and design furniture. Its exciting for me to participate.  I know that I'm riding on Helene's coat tails , but its a super opportunity to get some publicity of my work.

Here are 3 pieces for the show . The upper left is a Box Elder Burl open form with a natural edge . The picture doesn't do it it justice. Its a piece I'm really proud of . I'll put a few more views of it in a few days. Beside it is a Black Walnut natural edge bowl. Below them it a natural edge Fir platter.

This jewellery box was created for the show. It is Box Elder Burl as well.

The centerpiece is a Box Elder Burl vase, about 10" high. On the left is a spalted Birch bowl and on the right is a small natural edge Box elder Burl bowl

This is a large Box Elder Burl bowl. It is very colorful !

This is the piece that the gallery noticed when Helene had it displayed for me at Creative Chaos in June. It is a Box Elder natural edge bowl that I had textured and burned to emphasize the rim.

In all I have chosen 10 pieces for the exhibition . While Helene is visiting family in Quebec, I'll be be busy.

Fall in the Okanagan is very beautiful. Yesterday I got some more Maple from a downed tree in Vernon with Bob, Dick and Ron from the Turners Guild. I got 8 huge pieces for bowls and vases and 6 smaller ones for natural edge bowls. I was so pumped when I got home that I created this natural edge platter as well as a 16" diameter salad bowl ! By the way I'm not looking for style points with the headgear here !
