Cougars Fall Short in Final
WINDSOR WINS
The Cougars opened the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run and another 5-0 run capped by a Lindsay Ledingham three-pointer brought the home team to within four with 1:27 left, but that triple would be the last points of the game for the U of R as Windsor pulled away down the stretch.
Miah-Marie Langlois had a game-high 18 points and added nine rebounds for Windsor, while Laura Mullins and Korissa Williams both scored 12 and Jessica Clemençon had 11 points and 11 rebounds to collect the lone double-double of the game.
Michelle Clark and Lindsay Ledingham both had 16 points for the Cougars.
The teams started out with a back-and-forth first quarter that saw the two teams stay within four points the entire period. The first real run of the game for either team happened over a four-minute stretch late in the second quarter, when Windsor reeled off 11 consecutive points to turn what had been a one-point lead into a 34-22 advantage.
The Cougars chipped that lead down to five at one point in the third, but another Windsor run which saw the Lancers score the final six points of the half give the visitors a 14-point advantage, their largest lead of the game.
After Ledingham's three pulled the Cougars to within four, Williams – who was named the CIS Championship MVP – scored a bucket to put Windsor back up by six. Clark had a chance to get the Cougars to within one possession with a three, but it was no good and three free throws by Windsor in the last 20 seconds of the game iced the win.
NOTES: Windsor joins UBC (1971-73), Laurentian (1975-79), Victoria (1980-82), and Winnipeg (1993-95) as the only schools ever to win three straight CIS championships.

Cougars in Final
Thanks to Rod Pederson
REGINA, Sask. – In one of the best postseason performances in the history of CIS women's basketball, University of Regina post Brittany Read scored 24 points and pulled down 29 rebounds to lead the Cougars to a 78-49 win over Saint Mary's in a semifinal game at the 2013 CIS Championship at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
The Cougars advance to Sunday's national championship game, where they'll meet Windsor for the chance to win their second CIS title in program history. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. (The Score, www.cis-sic.tv).
Read already had a double-double by halftime and simply dominated the fourth quarter. In five minutes on the floor in the final period, Read scored eight points and pulled down 11 rebounds to help the Cougars pull away down the stretch following a lackluster third-quarter effort. Her 29 rebounds break the old Canada West record of 28, which was set by Victoria's Edna Richie back in 1974.
Besides Read's monster numbers, the Cougars also got 13 points from Michelle Clark and 12 points from Danielle Schmidt. Rookie Katie Polischuk scored 11 points – all of which came in the first half – and grabbed nine rebounds to fall just short of her first career double-double.
"We followed the game plan tonight and Brittany was simply fantastic on the glass," Cougars head coach Dave Taylor said. "We'll have the home crowd behind us tomorrow and I fully expect the game to go back and forth the whole time."
Saint Mary's Nan Copp Trophy winner Justine Colley led the Huskies with 18 points, but was just 4-for-20 from the field. Naomie Fequiere had 15 points, while Laura Langille scored 10 for Saint Mary's. Langille and Amanda Smith both had eight rebounds for the Huskies.

CIS Women's Nationals in Regina
COUGARS ADVANCE!
The two teams were never separated by more than six points until past the midway point of the fourth quarter, when the Cougars finally stepped up with a 10-0 run over a span of just under three minutes to turn what had been a one-point advantage into a huge 11-point lead with three minutes to go.
The Cougars will now advance to the semifinals, where they’ll square off with the Saint Mary’s Huskies. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday (Access7 / www.cis-sic.tv).
“That game played out exactly how we expected,” Cougars head coach Dave Taylor said. “The scout on McGill was that they were among the most physical teams in the country and they were definitely tough tonight. We did a much better
Lindsay Ledingham and Michelle Clark both had 15 points to tie for the game high, while Clark led all players with six assists. Brittany Read had the lone double-double of the contest, collecting 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Cougars. Danielle Schmidt also hit double figures for the Cougars, scoring 12 points.
Jennilea Coppola had a big game off the bench for Regina, scoring seven points and adding 10 rebounds in just 16 minutes on the floor. Read and Coppola were a huge reason for the U of R’s dominance on the boards, as the Cougars outrebounded McGill by a 46-25 margin in the win.
Dianna Ros led McGill with 13 points and five assists. The Martlets will meet Fraser Valley in the consolation semifinals on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. (www.cis-sic.tv).
NOTES: This game was the first ever postseason meeting between the two teams ... though the Cougars had a huge rebounding advantage, they also turned the ball over 25 times to McGill’s 11.
